CHEETAH'S LEGS

The physical differences are obvious when you compare a cheetah to another big cat. Cheetahs have smaller, rounder heads and their bodies are long and sleek. Cheetahs legs are quite long, too, and at the end of their lengthy limbs are paws that are more narrow than those on the other big cats of the wild. Long legs are the foundation of their build, a design that makes cheetahs the fastest land mammals in the world.

Speed
The way a cheetah is built, specifically the length of his legs, is what gives him his speed, up to 70 mph. Long legs allow cheetahs to take huge strides when running. The shape of their hind legs enhances their speed, too. The hind legs store up energy much like a spring does so that when the cheetah steps down on them and pushes off, the energy is released, explosively driving him forward.

Mechanics of the Run

The cheetah's swiftness is largely based in his long legs, but other parts of his body pitch in to work together to help him move with extreme velocity. His sleek body is aerodynamic, and his flexible spine acts as an extended spring for his hind legs to help with additional stride size. Cheetahs use their long tails for balance so they don't wipe out when they make a sharp turn at high speed.

Hunting

Cheetahs rely on the speed their legs generate to hunt during the day. While their big cat cousins such as lions, pumas and leopards hunt at night, the cheetah hunts in the morning or the afternoon. He relies on his eyesight to locate prey and then sidles up to within 50 yards of his meal before engaging his legs to spring into action and charge at full speed.

So-So Track Record

Those long legs don't always mean a successful hunt for cheetahs. The Encyclopedia of Life says that most cheetah hunts fail. Although they are swift of foot, cheetahs are sprinters who only maintain their high speed for short amounts of time, typically up to a minute. When a cheetah charges the prey he has in his sights, it could get away if it isn't knocked down by the force of the cat hitting it.

                                                   68TH INDEPENDENT DAY
Independence Day, observed annually on 15 August, is a National Holiday in India commemorating the nation's independence from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on 15 August 1947. India attained independence following an Independence Movement noted for largely nonviolent resistance and civil disobedience led by the Indian National Congress (INC).[1] Independence coincided with the partition of India, in which the British Indian Empire was divided along religious lines into the Dominions of India and Pakistan; the partition was accompanied by violent riots and mass casualties, and the displacement of nearly 15 million people due to sectarian violence.
On 15 August 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru, who had become the first Prime Minister of India that day, raised the Indian national flag above the Lahore Gate of the Red Fort in Delhi. On each subsequent
Independence Day, the Prime Minister has raised the flag and given a speech.[2]
The holiday is observed throughout India with flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades and cultural events. Indians celebrate the day by displaying the national flag on their attire, accessories, homes and vehicles; by listening to patriotic songs, watching patriotic movies; and bonding with family and friends. Books and films feature the independence and partition in their narrative. Separatist and militant organisations have often carried out terrorist attacks on and around 15 August, and others have declared strikes and used black flags to boycott the celebration.

HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI BOMBING

Atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

World War II had been going on for over two years and the U.S. was staying in isolationism.   But on December 7, 1941 Japan launched an attack on Pearl Harbor.  After this The United States declared war on Japan.  On August 6, 1945, little boy, the first atomic bomb ever used in war was dropped on the city of Hiroshima.  This resulted in 70,000-80,000 people died immediately and another 70,000 were injured.  Hiroshima at the time was very large with roughly 350.000 people living there.  It was chosen because it had industrial and military significance.  Three days later it was followed by Fatman, the second and last atomic bomb used in war, which was dropped on the city of Nagasaki.  This resulted in over 40,000-75,000 immediately dying.  Originally Fatman was to be dropped on the city of Kokura, but because of the weather they decided to bomb their secondary target Nagasaki.  Nagasaki was important because it was one of the largest seaports in Japan and the large industrial activities including producing military equipment.        Many things led up to the bombing of theses two great Japanese cities.  The first event leading up to the bombing is World War II and Japans involvement in bringing the US out of isolationism.  After the bombing of Pearl Harbor the US was already furious with Japan and wanted revenge.  Another thing leading up to this event was Manhattan Project.  This was started in 1939 when the U.S., feared that the Germans were making an atomic bomb.  This resulted in the creation of the bomb.  Another factor was the Potsdam Declaration, which was issued in July 26 1945.  This stated that Japan must surrender and follow all the terms or face “prompt and utter destruction.”  Japan declined and the U.S. followed in its threat with the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  The atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had many consequences

THE GREAT STONE FACE

                                             THE GREAT STONE FACE-1

The great stone face was formed on the side of a mountain by some rocks.A mother and her little boy could see it from the distance and they looked like a human face and alive. Going near the face turned into heap of rocks. It was believed that the valley owned much of its fertility to this stone face.
The boy felt very fascinated to look at it.He wanted great stone face to speak. Mother told him a story that she herself had heard in her childhood. She told a prophecy that a great man bearing that stone face would be born some day.
Ernest never forget that story. He had no teacher, but he considered the great stone face as his teacher. Once a rumour spread that the man with resemblance of great stone face had arrived.A young man had left the valley many years ago and settled at a distance sea port. He was Mr.Gathergold.Ernest however fond him an unpleasant face.
Ernest grew to be industrious, kind and neighbourly boy. People did not find anything remarkable in him except that every evening he looked at great stone. They could not understand that his idea and thoughts were broader than those which all men shared with him. Mr.Gathergold died as a poor man and was buried. It was thought now that he was not that man.
many years before another man had become a soldier from that valley. After fighting many battles, he had become a commander. His name become "blood and thunder".They said, this commander's face resembles the great stone face completely. Ernest also visited the fair. He looked at the commander and the great stone face buthe did not recognize the face. This voice came from the great stone face , fear not, ernest , he will come.

                              It will continues.................
