THE GREAT STONE FACE-1
The great stone face was formed on the side of a mountain by some rocks.A mother and her little boy could see it from the distance and they looked like a human face and alive. Going near the face turned into heap of rocks. It was believed that the valley owned much of its fertility to this stone face.
The boy felt very fascinated to look at it.He wanted great stone face to speak. Mother told him a story that she herself had heard in her childhood. She told a prophecy that a great man bearing that stone face would be born some day.
Ernest never forget that story. He had no teacher,but he considered the great stone face as his teacher. Once a rumour spread that the man with resemblance of great stone face had arrived.A young man had left the valley many years ago and settled at a distance sea port. He was Mr.Gathergold.Ernest however fond him an unpleasant face.
Ernest grew to be industrious,kind and neighbourly boy. People did not find anything remarkable in him except that every evening he looked at great stone. They could not understand that his idea and thoughts were broader than those which all men shared with him. Mr.Gathergold died as a poor man and was buried. It was thought now that he was not that man.
many years before another man had become a soldier from that valley. After fighting many battles, he had become a commander. His name become "blood and thunder".They said, this commander's face resembles the great stone face completely. Ernest also visited the fair. He looked at the commander and the great stone face buthe did not recognize the face.This voice came from the great stone face , fear not, ernest , he will come.
